Alexa earned an A.S. in Liberal Arts from FM in 1986. She earned a B.S. in Chemistry from SUNY Oneonta, and both a Masters and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Alexa has been a Chemistry Professor at Saint Louis University (SLU) for 18 years. She has an established research program in biophysical chemistry, and many of her students have been co-authors on peer-reviewed publications. Her leadership roles are many, serving as the Director of Pre-Professional Health Studies, Director of Advising for the Medical Campus, and as Associate Dean in the Graduate School.
She is a consistent role model and mentor to young women as she takes minority high school girls under her wing to work in her research lab. She has also developed a chemistry program for Girl Scouts in the St. Louis area which involves forensic science activities for their “Interest Project.”
